In 1999, Mary Jo Greenberg founded the Mary Jo and Hank Greenberg Animal Welfare Foundation, which exists to support organizations that rescue and adopt or provide care, housing, and medical services to homeless and neglected animals.

Since its inception, the Foundation has helped hundreds of companion animal rescue groups, spay and neuter nonprofits, as well as organizations rescuing and rehabilitating horses, wildlife, and marine mammals throughout California.

Stray Cat Alliance was one of the original grantees of the Foundation and as of 2021, the organization has received over $2 million in grants. As the Foundation approaches its sunsetting, it has awarded over $45 million in grants to worthy organizations.

Naren Shankar is the Executive Producer/Showrunner of the critically acclaimed television adaptation of the international best-seller science fiction novel series, The Expanse, an Amazon Prime Original Series from Alcon Television Studios.

Naren spent eight seasons as a Writer-Executive Producer and Co- Showrunner of the most-watched show in the world, CSI:Crime Scene Investigation. In 2011 he helped launch NBC’s Grimm as a Writer- Executive Producer. Prior to CSI, Naren was an Executive Producer on the SyFy Channel cult hit series Farscape for The Jim Henson Company, and spent three seasons as a writer-producer on Showtime’s The Outer Limits.

Naren began his career as a writer and science consultant for Star Trek: The Next Generation, and he holds a PhD in Applied Physics & Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

Naren has been honored with multiple Emmy nominations for Best Series, a WGA Award nomination for CSI’s two-hour event “Grave Danger” directed by Quentin Tarantino, and has received WGC and Saturn Awards for The Outer Limits, CSI, and Farscape. The Expanse won a Hugo Award for “Leviathan Wakes” in 2017 and was nominated in 2019 for “Abaddon’s Gate,” and again in 2020 for “Gaugamela.” In 2021, The Saturn Awards distinguished The Expanse with The Television Spotlight Award.  

Naren often blames his wife for making him a slave to those furry little stinkers known as cats, but deep down he knows that the fault lies within.

Last February, Munchkin's Chief Brand Officer and Creative Director, Diana Barnes (DB) was notified of a stray kitten stuck in the plastic packaging of a Munchkin cup. DB immediately stepped in, paid for the cat's surgery and committed to redesigning the packaging for the brand's 500+ cup SKUs. The new packaging is plastic-free and safe for the animal planet, ensuring that if another creature were to get stuck in Munchkin cup packaging, it could easily escape unharmed.

Even as a child, Hyla Marrow had a deep love for cats - a love that would last her whole life. During her life she advocated for cats in need, establishing the Hyla Marrow Trust to help homeless cats find medical care and forever homes. 60 organizations in Southern California, including Stray Cat Alliance, have been able to save more lives because of Hyla's generosity and dedication to cats in need.
